Mia Irwin

Mia Irwin is a freelance Scenic Designer and Scenic Artist based in Detroit, MI. Mia holds an MFA from The Pennsylvania State University in Scenic Design, and a BA in Theatre Arts and a Minor in Art and Design from the University of Northern Colorado.

Recent design credits include the Scenic Designs for Double Trouble (2023) at Bristol Valley Theatre and Twelfth Night (Taub) (2023) at Northern Stage, VT, and Penn State Centre Stage for Into the Woods (2023), Metamorphoses (2022), Nostalgia Night (2022), The Wild Party (Lippa) (2021), and Dry Land (2021). Other credits include the Scenic Design at the University of Northern Colorado for Eurydice (2019), as well as an Associate Scenic Design for The Drowsy Chaperone (2018). She was also the Associate Scenic Designer for Into the Woods and the Assistant Charge Artist for First Date in The Little Theatre of the Rockies’ 2019 summer season.

As a scenic artist, Mia has painted at locations such as Rev Theatre Company (formerly Fingerlakes Musical Theatre Festival), The Little Theatre of the Rockies, Acomb, Ostendorf and Associates, LLC, Candlelight Dinner Playhouse, Penn State Centre Stage, and the University of Northern Colorado’s School of Theatre Arts and Dance.

Mia recently received the USITT Scene Design Award Sponsored by Rose Brand and the Penn State College of Arts and Architecture Creative Achievement Award in Theatre. Her design of Metamorphoses placed first in the USITT Design Expo Scenic Design category, was awarded second place in the Penn State Graduate Exhibition in the Design category, and will be featured in the Summer 2023 edition of the Theatre Design and Technology (TD&T) magazine.
